Fact Checking Workshop in Beirut

Maharat Foundation organized a workshop on fact checking within the framework of building the capacity of journalists to fight fake news. The workshop was organized in cooperation with the International Fact-Checking Network, and Google News Initiative and gathered more than 25 journalists.

The training aimed at building the capacity of journalists with fact checking skills and enabled them to launch their initiatives on a wider scale. In this Regard, Layal Bahnam, the program manager at Maharat, said “Maharat is focusing nowadays on fact checking information amidst all the fake news that we encounter on social media and some mainstream media platforms”.

Baybars Orsek, director of the International Fact-Checking Network, emphasized the importance of building the capacity of journalists to launch their fact checking initiatives in their countries.
